The composition developed from an abstracted architectural space, with the pale vertical form acting as both a structural divide and a possible passage. It stands against a dark, enclosed ground without becoming a clearly defined doorway or destination.
This ambiguity is central to the painting. The viewer is invited to consider whether the light is entering the space, emerging from within it or revealing something that was previously concealed.
The painting was constructed through carefully developed layers of acrylic on 300gsm fine art paper.
Dark passages were built using expressive marks, visible underlayers and varied paint applications, creating a surface with density and subtle physical relief. Some forms emerge clearly, while others recede into the atmospheric ground.
The pale vertical divide was gradually refined to create contrast without becoming stark or disconnected. A small yellow mark provides a concentrated focal point within the restrained composition.
